Rural Sheboygan County Leads in Food and Beverages Industry


The Sheboygan County-based firms of MilliporeSigma (Merck KGaA), Masters Gallery Foods, Inc. and Johnsonville Sausage entered the list of Top 25 projects by Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The county has a long heritage of producing some of the best sausages, cheese and various agricultural products. It is also known for innovative high-pressure packaging firm that prolongs the shelf-life for packaged food. In fact, many of what the county produces is already available in local grocery stores like coffee, frozen pizza, whey protein, organic ice creams, popcorns, wine, beer, chocolates etc.

MilliporeSigma (Merck KGaA), Masters Gallery Foods, Inc. and Johnsonville Sausage plan on investing about $141 million in the county which would create 423 jobs in the next three years. It is expected that the local economy will be experiencing a boost turning Sheboygan County a target market for investment in future.

The most interesting thing about the developments observed is that the hub for all the innovations and development is in rural parts of Sheboygan County. Two of the above mentioned projects are in rural Sheboygan County while the third is in a township. Sheboygan County is thus not only emerging as a hub for innovation and excellence but also as a future go to place for industrial and agricultural investments.
