With the completion of the UP Investors Summit and the signing of over 11 MoU or Memorandum of Understanding of approximately 568 crores of rupees, the UP government is all set to start off with the work of the leather cluster located at Kanpur- Unnao belt. Over 450 acres of land near Senpurab Para village at Hamirpur Road, Kanpur is identified for the planned leather cluster. It has been estimated that once established, the project would generate an employment opportunity for over 3500 people.
When asked for his valuable comments over the latest development, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, CR Chaudhary informed that the Union Ministry has given its approval to the leather cluster in the region. It now depends on the state government to send the proposal and start the work. Chaudhary informed that in the last financial year (2016-17), the centre got over Rs 21,777 crore in foreign exchange from the leather industry.
As reported by him, he said, “It was from the leather industry that the union government got highest ever FDI of 60.08 billion US dollar in the last financial year.” However, Mr. Ranvir Prasad, the MD of UPSIDC has dismissed the reports that the MSME is being shifted out of the state. He quoted, “There have been lot rumors about leather industries of Kanpur being targeted and being shifted to any other location. I assure you that leather units of Kanpur are not going anywhere.”
